2006 Harley-Davidson Twin Cam 117 Road King Conversion | Bergene Boys Speed Shop

When Beau Bergene set out to build his 2006 Harley-Davidson, it wasn’t just about creating another custom bike—it was about establishing the identity of Bergene Boys Speed Shop. Starting life as a 2006 H-D Ultra Classic, this machine was transformed into a stripped-down, Bonneville-inspired Road King-style performance build designed to look fast standing still.

As a new shop owner, Bergene wanted a project that showcased his fabrication skills, creativity, and attention to detail. Built entirely in-house—from fabrication to final assembly—between August 2, 2023 and March 30, 2024, this bike represents long nights, problem solving, and a clear performance vision.

At the heart of the build is a 2006 Harley-Davidson Twin Cam punched out to 117 cubic inches with 4.125-inch bore cylinders. The stock cases were upgraded with a Timken conversion and a Man O War flywheel from Dark Horse Motor Company, while TMan Performance heads help move serious air. Feeding the beast is a Horsepower Inc (HPI) Max Flow 58-62 throttle body paired with an HPI V2 air cleaner and custom HPI exhaust.

Backing it all is a stock 5-speed transmission with a DP clutch and S&S lock-up setup. The goal wasn’t just aesthetics—this bike was built to perform.

One of the standout features is the combination of a 49mm front end and a 180 rear tire on a 2006 chassis. The front suspension features Alloy Art Next Gen lowers, Pro-One DLC fork tubes, Extreme Performance cartridges, and A1 49mm conversion triple trees. Out back, a Nowaskey Extreme Performance shock controls a modified 2009 swingarm reworked by Bergene Boys Speed Shop to accept the wider 180/55-18 rear tire.

The frame received significant modification. Original floorboard mounts were shaved, fender struts were cut off, and a new subframe-style rear fender mount was fabricated in-house. The result is a lighter, more aggressive profile.

Stopping power comes courtesy of radial Brembo M4 calipers clamping Bare Knuckle Performance Antihero rotors front and rear, mounted to H-D Prodigy wheels (19-inch front, 18-inch rear).

The finish is Vivid Black with clear-coated carbon fiber, painted by Brian Bergene. Saddlemen carbon fiber front and rear fenders reinforce the lightweight theme, while a custom Saddlemen seat keeps things performance-focused.

One of the most challenging aspects of the build was eliminating the factory dash and running no nacelle while converting it into a Road King-style setup. Bergene fabricated a custom tank plate to clean up the dash area and had to creatively hide and reroute wiring to maintain a seamless look. A Power Vision dash with custom mount, 7/8-inch clip-ons, Motion Pro quarter-turn throttle, relocated start/power button, and modified Vortex rearsets complete the stripped-down cockpit.

The Baja LP4 headlight and custom Dynamic TruFlex taillight finish the aggressive stance.

Inspired by Bonneville racers, drag bikes, and road racing machines, Beau wanted a motorcycle that looked durable, simplified, and purpose-built. Most rewarding? Watching the vision come to life after countless late nights—and sharing it with others at shows.

For a new shop, this build says everything it needs to.
